Written Statement

The solution develops a concept of prefabricated modular pieces. There are two basic types of main formal modular solutions: a cubic that solves the streets as rows and other non cubic solving the intersection as a grid. The idea of the project is to divert the road mobility for the underground, through the interior of these prefabricated modules, and release the surface of the street as public space for leisure and commerce.
The road mobility on the streets takes place within four rows of cubic modules, where the two central are to road traffic in both directions and the two sided rows are used for parking, access to subway, ventilation and technical infrastructure. The road mobility intersection is developed in the interior of the referred non cubic modules.
The above area of the two central rows of modules for motor vehicles is intended for public space for leisure. The other buildings side rows of modules above the car parking serve as access to buildings, commerce, walking and for the use of bicycles. At the same time it serves as an emergency corridor for ambulances and fire-fighters. The surface of the intersection keeps the same continuity functional logic of the previous building side public space, with the central space opened to the underground interior for ventilation and natural lighting.
The natural variation altimetry of the land is settled by the capacity of the cubic modules takes with a constant geometrical measure position in the vertical plane, through the use of modular ramps. Also this variation seeks to solve the pre-existence’s that exist in the underground as the subway and other infrastructures for sanitation.
With this strategy of designing a subterranean road system, the resulting surface becomes consequently a healthy public space enriched with quality of life for the people. That public space uses secondary modular elements as ramps, green spaces and spaces for seating.
This proposal is thus formally innovative towards amending the concept of street, from a vehicles corridor of mobility with people public space on one unique level to another concept that separates the vehicles corridor of mobility and people public space on two different vertical separated levels. Its material achievement seeks for prefabrication technology as concrete, steel or mixed structures. It recalls the wished idea of flexibility by reducing the maximum cost of implementation and allowing future amendments of the street, with the capacity of assembling and dismantling the modular pieces, like it were a puzzle.
