The Public Station
The proposal relates to the hierarchy of transportation means: The pedestrian – public transportation – bicycle – road (cars and trucks).
The main idea is to offer a new concept of a public transportation station, that provides an arena of public socialization occurrence for all public transportation users, passers-by, cyclists, pedestrians, and local crew.
The stations consists an interactive meeting place that enables public activity, along with providing the user with the freedom of choice for his part in that activity.
The goal is to turn the existing “asphalt road” into a new one, which does not belong only to the passers-by anymore, but provides the user of all kinds the option different types of “staying”: A goal oriented stay, a long stay, a social stay, a short stay, and more.
The proposed station offers functionality and accessibility, while embracing local spontaneous social occurrence.
It is proposed to make use of the existing road, hence preserving local building characteristics, out of a sustainability principle, however, offers new activities that will change its appearance within the city.
The project enables maximum accessibility and a direct link between pedestrians and transportation means, hence encouraging and accessing their functionality, while adhering to non-compromising safety principles.
The wait in this station becomes an interactive experience, in which road users can choose their part in this public arena, and the activity level they wish to undertake.
